Frequently asked questions

It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion. As a small business, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence.

How many watts can your speakers drive?

125 W (6.5" cones).  150 W (8" cones).

What is the frequency range of your speakers?

20 Hx to 22 KHz

What are the speaker cones made of?

Kevlar, Carbon Fiber, Cerametallic.  All make very stiff cones for exceptional sound reproduction.

What are the tweeters made from and how big are they?

The tweeters in our speakers are 1" diameter made from aluminum. Silk dome tweeters are available also but those require a special non-stock speaker that we need to order.

Are the speaker cabinets from fake wood like MDF, veneer plywood or are they made from solid wood?

Aurum Audio builds all speaker cabinets in solid "tone woods" like cocobolo, rosewood, kingwood and others.

What is the benefit of Kevlar or Carbon Fiber cones vs. polypropylen

Kevlar and Carbon Fiber are extremely strong, i.e. 5-10 times stronger than steel. These materials create a very stiff cone with less distortion, the stiffer the cone the better the sound.

Can I pick the type of wood and stain for the speakers?

Yes. Aurum Audio allows the client a complete bespoke or custom build of the speakers. You can choose any of the exotic woods we stock, you can also have us build a larger or smaller speaker to fit your exact needs.

How long does it take to have a custom speaker made?

A lot of hand work goes into the production of our speakers including hand sanding and finishing.  Custom speakers are fit into our standard shop production process and typically takes 1 week to complete.

What size stereo receiver or 7.1 receiver do you recommend?

Depending on the number of speaker pairs you are driving, you will need a high-quality receiver that can drive 75-100 watts per channel or higher.  We typically recommend and install Denon or Yamaha receivers. Today, there are many well-built receivers to choose from including Sony, Pioneer, Macintosh and more.
